August E. Brunsman IV Former Technical Staff, Institute for Humanist Studies Web/database Programmer
August Brunsman was the web/database programmer for the Institute for Humanist Studies. He handled the COHE project's most detailed and complicated programming needs.
Brunsman has many years' experience building web-based, database-driven information systems and has presented his projects at national conferences. Brunsman's technical expertise made it possible for the COHE website to operate interactively. Online registration, enrollment, logins, quizzes, and other key aspects of the COHE experience were facilitated by his involvement in site development.
Brunsman received his Bachelor of Science with honors in the liberal arts and distinction in psychology from the Ohio State University. He majored in psychology and minored in mathematics and cognitive science. He is a member of the Golden Key, Mortar Board, and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies.
Brunsman has been a leader in the campus freethought movement since he co-founded Students For Freethought at the Ohio State University and served as its President from the summer of 1997 to the summer of 2000. The group has grown to be one of the largest and most successful campus freethought groups in the U.S. He held the office of Treasurer for the Campus Freethought Alliance for the 98-99 school year and was the Internet Resources Director for the 99-00 school year. Brunsman helped to found the Secular Student Alliance (SSA) in 2000 and has served as its Executive Director since 2001. SSA is the only democratic, independent national organization serving the high school and college freethought movement in the United States.
Brunsman's freethought activism is not limited to the campus scene. He has been a Camp Quest counselor since 1999 and now serves as Vice President of the Camp Quest National Board and coordinator of counselors at the Ohio camp. He is secretary of the Humanist Community of Central Ohio and co-founder and operator of www.godoffmoney.com. He appears in the pages of Who's Who In Hell.
